Welcome
About Me
My name is Meagan Luschen and I teach 2nd grade at Odyssey Charter School. I have lived in Georgia since 2010 and before that I lived in 6 other states including Texas, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. My husband, Steven, and I have one daughter Lily who is just over 1 year old. She is our pride and joy!
I earned my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education in 2009 from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana and my Master's Degree in Elementary Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia. I love teaching all subjects, but math is something I love to teach because I love to hear the way my student's solve a problem! There is a lot of bad publicity about "new math" that is not really new at all! While students need to learn their basic math facts and skills, a large part of math is about how your child approaches the problem. Even if it doesn't seem like the way you would do it, you would be surprised how young students can solve a problem just by letting them try it their own way!
We are also very lucky to have Ms. Rhonda Coffman in our room this year as our parapro. Rhonda has lived in the Atlanta area all of her life and loves to laugh, go to Chick-fil-a and hang out with her son.
We look forward to another exciting year of learning in 2nd grade this year!

Homework
Reading at home with your child is so important, and in 2nd grade our students are able to read some books on their own and others they still need to read with you. Our weekly reading logs will be collected each Monday. Please help your child record what they are reading each day. Our expectation is that students read for at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week. This includes anything your child reads including books, magazines, newspapers, ebooks, etc.
